Kewpie launches new plant-based "HOBOTAMA" liquid egg-like and scrambled egg-like products for cooking

Kewpie Corporation will begin selling its plant-based food "HOBOTAMA" for sale online (limited to some areas of Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Chiba) from Thursday, March 3th. The company plans to gradually expand the sales area in the future.

In recent years, more and more people are choosing plant-based foods due to growing health consciousness and concern for the global environment. Against this backdrop, we launched the plant-based food "HOBOTAMA" for commercial use in June last year. "HOBOTAMA" is a product that allows customers to enjoy the taste of eggs using plant-based ingredients, and is being increasingly adopted by hotels and restaurants that offer plant-based foods, as well as in nursery and kindergarten lunches from the perspective of food allergy considerations. At the same time, we have received many voices from general customers who would like to purchase it. In order to respond to these voices, we are proceeding with development towards the release of a commercial product, and will begin by selling it through mail order.

The Kewpie Group handles the largest amount of eggs in Japan and is a manufacturer with extensive egg knowledge. Using the flavor creation, soft-cooking, and cooking techniques it has cultivated over the years, the group develops a variety of processed egg products.

Now, making use of these technologies, they have newly developed "HOBOTAMA Liquid Egg Style for Heating" as their second plant-based food. It reproduces the properties of beaten eggs solidifying when heated, and can be used to make dishes such as omelets and rolled eggs, as well as sweets such as pancakes and cookies. To convey the "versatility" of the product, which can be used in a variety of dishes, they will be publishing recipes on the product website.

This is a plant-based food that has the color, texture, and flavor of eggs, but does not contain eggs. It is a processed product made from mainly plant-based ingredients (based on defatted almond powder) that can be enjoyed in cooking like liquid eggs. Since it solidifies when heated, it can be used in a variety of dishes, such as omelets, tamagoyaki, carbonara, and fried rice.

【how to use】
